A polyp is a growth that starts in the tissue and increases into the hollow space. A polypectomy removes polyps that are forming symptoms that may be cancerous and that require to be examined.
Types of polypectomy
Let’s discuss two most popular types of polypectomy:-
- Uterine polypectomy: For removing polyps in the endometrial tissue, the tissue which lines the uterus.
- Colon polypectomy: For removing polyps in the colon.
Polyps may also build in other areas of the body. Some other relatively popular sites of polypectomy are as follows:
- The nose
- The cervix
- The vocal cords
- The stomach
What are polyps?
Polyps develop out of tissue inside the hollow spaces in the body. For example, colon polyps start in the tissue of the colon, then increase into the hollow space. Most polyps are benign whereas some are cancerous and some are precancerous. It’s not possible for ruled out cancer without examining the polyp, so many surgeons preferred routine removal for testing cancer.
Surgery
- Preparation for a polypectomy surgery depends upon the surgical technique and the place of the polyps.
- People go for the removal of uterine polyps through local anesthesia which may require no extra preparation.
- However, colon polypectomy needs the colon to be empty. Patients may be required to use enemas/ laxatives and both in the 12-24 hours before the surgery.
