Laparoscopic Surgery

In laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon builds several small cuts. Usually, all of the cuts are no more than a half inch in length. That's why most of the time it is called keyhole surgery. They put a tube through all the openings which they made through cuts, and the camera and surgical instruments insert through those. Then the surgeon performs the operation.

What Is Laparoscopic Surgery?

Laparoscopy is a kind of surgery or operation that applies smaller cuts than a person might expect. The procedure gets its name from the laparoscope, a slender tool which has a tiny video camera and light on it’s endings. When a surgeon puts this tool through a tiny cut and into the body, they can watch at a video monitor and see what is happening inside the person’s body. Without those tools, they had to build a much larger opening. Thanks to special instruments,  surgeons don’t have to reach into an individual’s body, either. That also means tiny cuttings on skin.

Benefits

Working this manner has numerous advantages as compared to traditional surgery. Because it includes tiny & small cutting:

  • People have smaller scars on skin.
  • People got out of the hospital quicker.
  • Person will feel less pain as the scars heal quickly.
  • People get back to their normal activities in a few days.
  • People may have tiny internal scarring.

Advanced Kinds of Laparoscopic Surgery

In some operations, the surgeon can insert the camera and the multiple surgical tools from the same opening in the skin. This means a few scars. But it is very tricky for the surgeon as the instruments are very near to one another.

In other cases, the surgeon may decide to apply a device which lets them insert in with a hand. This is called hand assisted laparoscopy.

The cuts made in the skin have to be longer than a half of inch, but it still can be very tiny in comparison to traditional surgery. This has made it possible to apply laparoscopic surgery for the liver as well as other organs.
